It's been an up and down season for Orlando City. A run of six straight wins has been followed by ten defeats in eleven games and they find themselves with only two teams below them in the Eastern Conference of the MLS. Their only win in the last 11 games has been a home victory over Toronto FC, one of the two sides below them in the table. Before that they had lost their last three home matches conceding twice in each of them. They have already played New York City once this season and their encounter in early June ended in a 3-0 defeat.

New York City are second in the Eastern Conference, four points behind the leaders but with two games in hand. They have won their last three league games and didn't concede a goal in any of those victories. The last six league games have only seen them beaten once but away form is hindering their title challenge. New York City have lost four of their last five away league games and conceded at least twice in each of those five matches. The defeats have been by top eight sides so this will be a more welcome game for them and they can get the three points.
