English Premier League side Arsenal will be taking on Greek giants Olympiakos Piraeus in the Round of 16 of the Europa League in what’s a repeat of the two sides’ meeting last season. The Gunners start away from home, looking to avenge their elimination at the hands of Olympiakos, though the elimination actually happened at The Emirates. Olympiakos head to this game unbeaten in their last three matches, but with a very poor run in Europe. They dropped from the Champions League after finishing third in Group C with a meager three points. No other third placed finisher got lower than four points. The Greek side has lost six of the last seven matches in Europe. They only squeezed through to this stage with a late Koka goal in the 2-1 loss to PSV. Until the 88th minute of that game, they were getting eliminated, but credit to them also for scoring in all but one of the last five Europa League matches.

What Olympiakos pulled on PSV with that late goal, they did the same to Arsenal in their meeting last season, scoring in the final minute of extra time in the return leg. Arsenal did win in Greece, with a late goal from Alex Lacazette. However, when they thought they’d done enough to earn a 1-1 draw at home, Olympiakos pulled a fast one on them with Youssef el-Arabi’s goal. The Gunners will have to be more careful this time, and they need a win after the disappointing draw with Burnley over the weekend. Arsenal had to leave it late against Benfica in the last game, winning 3-2 to eliminate the Portuguese side. They’ve had a great Europa League campaign, currently unbeaten in eight matches in the competition, winning seven. Mikel Arteta’s side has scored two or more in seven of the eight Europa League matches and managed to get at least a goal in each of the last 24 in the competition. They’ve lost just thrice in the last 22 and will give all, knowing this could be their only chance of playing in Europe next season.
