For the second consecutive year, Arsenal will kick off their preseason campaign with a trip to the Max-Morlock-Stadion to take on German club FC Nürnberg. Arsenal hosted Watford at their training ground a few days ago in a 1-1 draw which saw a number of young players take the field. The trip to Germany to take on Nürnberg will be the first official friendly on Arsenal’s fixture list and a number of first team regulars are expected to start the match. All eyes will be on new arrival Kai Havertz, who completed a £65 million move from London rivals Chelsea just a few weeks prior. These two teams played out an eight goal thriller last year which ultimately saw Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal walking away with a 5-3 victory. Arsenal will head off on their United States tour six days after this fixture and will take on the MLS All-Stars, Manchester United and Barcelona. 

Nürnberg suffered another disappointing season last year which saw them finish 14th in the 2. Bundesliga standings. The nine-time league champions enter the new season with the goal of winning promotion back to the top flight where they last competed in the 2018/19 season. Nürnberg were able to maintain consistent results at this ground compared to seasons past, putting up seven wins, four draws and six defeats in their 17 home outings. The German outfit has already gotten their preseason campaign underway with three wins and a draw from their four games played. Nürnberg’s most recent result ended in a 3-1 home win over Hungarian side DVTK on Sunday. The hosts kicked off their preseason with a 13-1 thrashing of minnow club FC Hersbruck which was sure to have boosted their confidence.
