Nottingham Forest will host Sheffield United on Friday in round two of the 2023/24 English Premier League season. Both teams lost their opening-round fixtures leaving Forest in 14th place on the standings and United in 16th. Nottingham Forest began the campaign with a 2-1 loss away to Arsenal. This left them as one of the seven teams that started the season with a loss. Steve Cooper's charges will be keen to change this here by using the advantage of being hosts. Forest won their last three home league matches to close out last season and will hope to pick up from where they left off. Their current form suggests however that it won't be that easy. The Reds have not won in their last five matches and have lost four times in this run. They are however unbeaten in the last four encounters with Sheffield United and have won twice.

Sheffield United won 2-1 the last time these two teams met, which was in the semi-finals of the 2021/22 EFL Championship Playoffs. They would however lose the tie on penalties with Forest going on to win promotion. Sheffield have won 25 of the 77 total matches against Forest with 10 of those coming on the road. They will hope to earn an 11th win to kick start their return to the top flight after two seasons in the second tier. Paul Heckingbottom’s charges started the season with a 1-0 loss at home against Crystal Palace. This was their second successive loss and the second game on the trot in which they had failed to score. The Blades were the third-best scoring side as they won automatic promotion last season. They have however struggled on the offensive end since the conclusion of the previous campaign. Sheffield have scored in only one of their last six games. This was a 3-1 success against Derby County in pre-season and it is the only match they have won in this stretch. They have lost four times in this unwanted run, conceding seven goals in those four defeats.
