Nottingham Forest will be hosting Cardiff City in the second week of action in the Championship with both sides seeking returns to winning ways after disappointing on the opening day. Nottingham Forest suffered a 2-0 loss away to QPR while Cardiff were 2-0 losers at home to Sheffield Wednesday. Last season, Nottingham came very close to earning a spot in the playoffs but only missed out on goal difference as Swansea beat them to sixth place. It was however their poor run towards the end of the regular season that largely cost Nottingham a place in the playoffs. The team went winless in their last six Championship matches and head to this game without a win in their last seven matches after earlier losing to Barnsley in the Carabao Cup. With just one clean sheet in 13 matches, manager Sabri Lamouchi will also have a headache trying to organize his defence but it seems the team is short on confidence as even their transfer activity has not helped much. The team has failed to score in three of their last four matches and in their last four matches they have conceded seven goals in the second half.
Cardiff City on the other hand, made it to the playoffs last season but fell to Fulham at the first hurdle. They will be hoping for a better season but their start hasn’t been anything close to their form at the close of last season. They won their final three matches of the regular season before heading to the playoffs but this season, they have started just like they did last season – with a loss. Cardiff started their Championship campaign with a 2-0 loss at home to Sheffield Wednesday, that coming after a 3-0 loss away to Northampton Town in the Carabao Cup first round. Conceding five goals in two matches points to a big issue in defence but Cardiff have a great record in their away matches in the Championship. In the last 10 away league games, they have seven wins and two losses, and have failed to score in just two of these. In the 10 away matches, Cardiff have scored two or more in five. They have lost just one of their last 11 matches against Nottingham Forest while winning nine.
