It's not since 1986 since Northern Ireland have qualified for the World Cup finals and just twice since 1958. They drew the short straw when being named in Germany's qualifying group but did well to finish second four points clear of third placed Czech Republic. Home form was strong with only Germany beating them and the other four games all ended in wins for Northern Ireland with clean sheets. They are not a side full of superstars but work together well as a team with ten players scoring in the qualifiers. Northern Ireland have only lost two of their last sixteen home games so this will be tough for Switzerland. The Swiss also had bad luck with their draw. While the Irish got the defending World Champions, they got Portugal just months after their Euro 2016 triumph. However, they beat Portugal in their game and went on to win their first nine qualifiers but an away loss to the Portuguese saw them finish second on goal difference 14 points clear of Hungary in third place. They only scored 23 goals in their 10 qualifiers and half their games had under 2.5 goals scored in them. Switzerland had won ten games in a row before losing to Portugal and have just one loss in their last 28 qualifiers. A bet on under 2.5 goals should be a winner in what will be a tight game as Switzerland will be desperate not to give anything away.
