Germany have won all eight of their qualifiers to date and if they avoid defeat will win the group and head off to Russia next year to defend their title. Just why the World Cup holders have to qualify is beyond me but they go into this penultimate qualifier five points clear of Northern Ireland with a final qualifier at home to Azerbaijan to come next week. The Germans are unbeaten in 17 games played since losing to France at Euro 2016 and are on a five game winning run.  A sobering fact for the Irish is that Germany have played 29 away World Cup qualifiers and are yet to taste defeat with 12 straight wins. Overall in World Cup qualifier they have gone 31 games without defeat since that 5-1 loss to England in 2001.and that's their only loss in 56 games. Northern Ireland don't have quite such a good record as that but come into this game in second place and a play-off place looks assured but if they could win their final two games they could still get automatic qualification if Germany manage to lose both their final two qualifiers, though that's fairly unlikely. They have had a great group with six wins, a draw and a sole defeat 2-0 away in Germany.  Just like their opponents they have only conceded two goals in their eight qualifiers and both those goals were in that German defeat so seven clean sheets out of eight. They have won their last five internationals but have lost their last four home games against the Germans. Go for a Germany away win in this game.
