On Tuesday evening, we head to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, where Nigeria will be playing host to Zimbabwe in the CAF World Cup qualifiers. The Super Eagles are in fourth place in Group C of this competition, while the Warriors are bottom of the table after five games. Check out our match prediction below!
Nigeria entered this competition as the favourites to win this group. They have qualified for the World Cup in six of the last eight editions, with the exceptions being in 2006 and the last tournament in Qatar in 2022. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, have never reached the main draw of a World Cup, but have featured six times in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Warriors have never beaten the Super Eagles in six previous matches across all competitions and are massive underdogs in this contest. Let’s take a look at some of the key stats to consider in this one.

Nigeria - Zimbabwe: Form Analysis
Nigeria made an underwhelming start to their World Cup qualifiers, playing out three consecutive 1-1 draws in their first three matches before losing to Benin 2-1 on the road in match four.
However, the Super Eagles pulled off a clutch 2-0 victory last week over then-group leaders Rwanda to move to six points and now trail South Africa at the top of the table by four points.
Still, following up with another win here is not a given for the hosts, as they have drawn each of their last four World Cup qualifier home games and are winless in five dating back to September 2021.
The last two matches between these sides ended in a draw!
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe came into this competition as the ranked outsider to secure qualification for the World Cup, and so far, they have lived up to expectations, currently bottom of the group with three points.
However, the Warriors have delivered a few resilient performances, having held Rwanda and Benin to draws, while they also took a point off their upcoming opponents back on matchday two.
The visitors have a dismal away record in this competition though. They have lost five of their last six World Cup qualifiers on the road and have not won any of their last 16 dating back to July 2004.

Nigeria & Zimbabwe Squad Analysis
After missing the first four matches in this competition, Victor Osimhen announced his return to the Super Eagles in fine style last week, netting a first-half brace in the victory over Rwanda.
Ademola Lookman was deployed in the number 10 role against Amavubi and set up his team’s first goal. Moses Simon joined Osimhen in attack and it will not come as a surprise if Eric Chelle maintained the same forward trio in this match.
The defensive quartet of Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, William Troost-Ekong and Bright Osayi-Samuel were rock-solid last week. However, the latter suffered a dead leg in that match and is a slight doubt.
Osimhen is now the second-highest goal scorer for Nigeria with 25 goals, 12 behind Rashidi Yekini!
Zimbabwe showed their powers of recovery last week, coming from two goals down to salvage a point against Benin thanks to goals by Marshall Munetsi and Knowledge Musona.
Munetsi has been an instant hit since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from Reims, and he has now scored twice in his last three matches for club and country.
Jordan Zemura is one to watch for the Warriors this week. The Udinese wing-back was instrumental against Benin, providing both assists for his team in the match.
Nigeria - Zimbabwe Key Points
- Nigeria have scored two or more goals in their last two matches.
- Nigeria have scored two or more goals in three of their last six matches against this opponent.
- Nigeria have scored in each of their last eight home games (excluding AFCON).
- Zimbabwe have conceded two or more goals in each of their last four matches in this competition.
- Zimbabwe have only kept one clean sheet in their last eight World Cup qualifier away games.

Our Nigeria vs Zimbabwe Prediction
Alarm bells were certainly sounded after Nigeria failed to win any of their first four matches in this competition, but they now look a whole lot better with Victor Osimhen back in the team and leading the line.
The Galatasaray forward should be fresh and raring to go here after being withdrawn after bagging his brace against Rwanda last time out, and we feel the Super Eagles will be able to find the net at least a couple of times in this one. Our Nigeria vs Zimbabwe prediction is Nigeria team toal over 1.5.
