Nigeria - Equatorial Guinea: Form Analysis
Nigeria are going on a quest to win their fourth African title and will be well ranked among the favorites here. The Super Eagles last lifted the coveted title in 2013 and have come short in most of the subsequent editions. Their best run after that saw Nigeria finish third in 2019, having failed to reach the 2015 and 2019 editions. There is no denying that the former African giants have slipped off the radar as one of the top teams on the continent. Here they have a chance for redemption, especially having one of the top squads at the tournament. Their run to this competition hasn’t been great either. Nigeria wrapped up their preparations for this competition with a 2-0 loss against Guinea in a friendly match. That leaves them with just a win in their last five matches. They also have no clean sheet in the five matches though only failing to score once in eight.
Equatorial Guinea are here for their fourth appearance and will be looking to better their best performance in 2015. Back then, they shocked the continent by reaching the semi finals and will be targeting an early upset here. In their last appearance in the last edition, Equatorial Guinea shocked Algeria at the group stage on their way to the last eight. While they are underdogs here, and in the competition, it will be a bad idea to underrate Juan Micha’s side. Coming into this game, Equatorial Guinea are unbeaten in 10 matches, winning five of them. They did beat Tunisia in the qualifiers for this competition and come here on a very good footing defensively. In their last four matches, they’ve conceded just a goal. However, they haven't been scoring a lot of goals; they haven't managed more than one in the last six games.

Nigeria & Equatorial Guinea Squad Analysis
Victor Osimhen will be the highlight player for Nigeria, coming off a good run with Napoli. The reigning African player of the Year will see this as a chance to sell himself to potential suitors as well as lift his nation. Nigeria will however be without Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface who has been ruled out with injury, alongside Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi. Meanwhile, Equatorial Guinea’s charge will be led by former Middlesbrough man Emilio Nsue. They will also be banking on Huddersfield Town’s youthful defender Charles Ondo at the back. Saul Coco also returns for his second AFCON appearance after establishing himself in the last finals in Cameroon.

Both teams to score - No
In two competitive meetings between these two sides, at least one side failed to score. The same has been the scenario in four of Equatorial Guinea’s last six matches. Nigeria also failed to score in their last outing and given the focus on defence we expect here, we won’t go for both teams to score.
