A prominent fixture in the second round of the FA Cup sees Newport County welcome Salford City to the Rodney Parade on Saturday. The hosts made it through the first round with a decent display in a 2-1 win at Leyton Orient. The visitors had a more challenging time passing the first round, requiring extra-time to beat Hartlepool 2-0. Salford have followed up that result with a good run of form that includes three wins in four matches. The only difficulty they faced on that stretch was away to Bolton in League Two action, where they lost 2-0. Newport County are, of course, also in League Two, and they are the likelier of the pair to escape it this season. Although they are top of the table with 29 points from 13 games, Newport are enduring a wobble in their form at the moment, failing to win two of their last three league matches. Even so, they have shown strength at home in recent weeks, winning four and losing none of the previous five games on their turf. The home side have played Salford twice before, losing the first encounter at home in the league before another loss on their patch on penalties in the EFL Trophy.
Salford, seventh in League Two with 22 points from 13 matches, have struggled to perform in recent outings on the road. Three of their last four away games ended in defeat, which doesn't bode well for Saturday. It is a tall task to ask them to destroy this poor run at the ground of the league leaders, but their good record against Newport has us thinking that they are worth backing. Place a draw no bet wager on Salford.
