Unless something happens on the final day of the transfer window, Tottenham won't have signed anyone during the summer. Jack Grealish is a likely signing but the success of Spurs players at the World Cup shows they have a highly talented squad. Another season and another new home ground but that's for later in the week, first they travel to Newcastle United for the Saturday lunchtime match. Last season saw Tottenham complete the double over Newcastle and they have won three of their last four away games against them. Only Manchester City had a better Premier League record than Spurs last season, those City did get 16 more points than them. The Londoners won 10 games on the road but did lose five. They have no major injuries worries and the largest question will be whether Harry Kane can get over his problem in scoring goals in August.

Newcastle had an inconsistent Premier League season but that could be written about the majority of teams. They finished 10th in the end but 33 points behind third-placed Tottenham and only 11 points above the bottom three. Again there's been a lack of major signings and unrest regarding owner Mike Ashley continues with no sign of a new broom to buy the club. Solomon Rondon has joined on loan but hardly set the world alight with relegated West Brom last season. Better news is that Kennedy is on loan again from Chelsea. Newcastle won eight home league games last season but lost seven, go for Tottenham to kick the season off with an away win in this match as their squad, even without a host of new signings, is a class above Newcastle's.
