Saturday afternoon in the Premier League sees a repeat of one of the highest-scoring games of the season. Newcastle United host Sheffield United in the return of the fixture which saw Newcastle smash eight goals past the demoralised Blades back in September. Eddie Howe’s team have been in good form at St. James’ Park this season, losing just three of their 17 home games, winning 11 and scoring an impressive 43 goals in the process. They are unbeaten in their last six home games, winning three of the last four and they have rattled in a fair few goals in those matches too. 18 in total, conceding ten in reply. They didn’t get the result they wanted in their most recent Premier League game, a 2-0 defeat away to Crystal Palace in midweek. That result leaves Newcastle United in seventh-place in the Premier League table in the Europa Conference League qualification spot. They are three-points behind Manchester United in sixth, with both teams having played 33 games. 

For Sheffield United, the inevitability of their relegation back to the Championship will likely be confirmed this weekend. Should they fail to win, or if Nottingham Forest win, then United will be relegated. It is only a matter of time for Chris Wilder’s team before that happens as they have a dismal record of just three wins all season, plus they have shipped 92 goals in their 34 games thus far. In fact, their goal difference of -59 is almost twice as bad as the next-worst in the division (Burnley with -32). Sheffield United have conceded four or more goals in eight Premier League games this season. Given Newcastle United’s form in front of goal at home, where they have scored 43 of their 69 EPL goals this season, this game has the look of being another where the visitors concede four or more.
