Newcastle United made a slow start to the season but have picked up well in recent weeks. The weekend saw them beat Burnley 2-0 at home and that extended their unbeaten run to five games in all competitions. Before that they'd lost their three previous games. Six goals had been conceded in those losses but since then, Newcastle have kept five successive clean sheets. That's included going to Milan in their opening game in this season and coming away with a creditable goalless draw. They also beat Manchester City in the Carabao Cup last week. Newcastle are now eighth in the Premier League and four points behind the top four. Home results are going to be vital for Newcastle in this ultra-tough group. The atmosphere will be totally manic but PSG should have the experience to cope with that or will they? Only four of their last 37 home games have been lost and three of them have been inflicted on them by Liverpool. It promises to be a great occasion but Newcastle can't let that get to them and those defensive skills shown in recent weeks need to be on display against PSG.

PSG haven't made the best of starts to the Ligue 1 season. After the latest set of fixtures they are in an uncustomary fifth place after seven games but only two points behind leaders Monaco. Their most recent game in Ligue 1 was a disappointing goalless draw at Clermont who are one from bottom in the table. The Parisians are unbeaten away from home this season but with one win and two draws in their three league fixtures. They are already in a good position in this group after the 2-0 home win over Borussia Dortmund. Away form in the Champions League for the-red-and-blues isn't great with only two wins in their last nine played. While it remains like that they will have to continue their long wait to win the Champions League. Their hope will be that the massive experience they have of European competition will be an advantage against a Newcastle side that definitely lacks in that area.
