Newcastle welcomes Brentford to St. James' Park for this Matchday 12 encounter in the English Premiership. The hosts are second last on the table in 19th position with 5 points. The visitors are in 14th spot with 12 points. Newcastle are the only team without a win this season and are already five points from relegation safety. They are winless across all competitions this season with a 1-1 draw against Burnley in their last match before the international break. The appointment of Eddie Howe as manager could not have come at a better time as relegation is a real threat for the Magpies even at this early stage of the season. This run of eleven matches without a league win is their worst ever start to a league season. Brentford’s return to top flight football for the first time in 74 years was met with much fanfare from their supporters. They didn’t disappoint as they only lost once in their first seven matches and were comfortably placed in the top half of the table. Their season then unraveled as they are now on a four game losing streak with includes a 2-1 home defeat to Norwich in their last match. They did however win 2-1 against Stoke in the League Cup. Brentford last lost five consecutive league matches back in 2007 when they were in League Two. The last two sides that were winless in the league, Norwich and Burnley both gained their first wins against Brentford. The visitors have only lost once in their last six away matches.
