New England Revolution host Minnesota with the home side occupying a play-off place and the away team hovering around in mid-table. In an important side-note, a scheduling irregularity in the MLS will have seen New England host teams coming from their international break three games in a row, with Kansas, Orlando and now Minnesota having had no competitive games since the end of May before facing the New England side. In terms of form, the hosts are doing well at the moment. Besides exiting the Cup after extra time to New York City, they are unbeaten in their last seven league games, managing to score at least once in all of them. They are similarly efficient at the Gilette Stadium, where they are unbeaten in their last six. A focal issue for improvement however, is their defence. Seven of their last eight games ended with both teams scoring, while they have conceded in each of their last four home games.
Minnesota have not played a competitive game since the 29th of May. They needed the break however, suffering a humiliating loss to third division side Union Omaha at the Cup as well as losing to New York City at home. Defensive issues persist, with Minnesota having conceded in each of their last nine games. Their form is mixed away from home, having three wins and three losses in their last six and only two clean sheets in those games. They have never won away at New England ever since they joined the MLS.
