Netherlands vs France Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro
by Ian John in Euro Predictions
Tonight, we have one of the blockbuster games of the group stages of Euro 2024! World Cup Finalist France takes on the Netherlands in what is sure to be a high-quality contest between two giants of European football!
The French were narrow 1-0 winners over Austria in their opening Group D game, but saw star man Kylian Mbappe break his nose during the match, making him a severe doubt for the Netherlands game and their final group encounter with Poland.
Standing in their way is the towering Virgil van Dijk and his Netherlands team who also came into the game on the back of a 2-1 win against Poland. A draw would likely be enough for both teams to qualify for the Round of 16, but a win would make certain for the victors, and they would likely top the group too.
Strap yourself down for this one, as it promises to be one of the tournament's most exciting games so far!

Netherlands - France: Form Analysis
France have suffered just two defeats in their last 11 games, both coming against Germany in friendly matches. They have drawn twice, away to Greece and then in their final warm-up friendly at home to Canada, but have racked up wins in the remaining games, including a 1-0 victory in their opening Euro 2024 fixture with Austria.
After finishing as runners-up in the 2022 World Cup, the French have won 11, drawn two and lost two of their following 15 games. They shortened in the markets to joint-favourites with many bookmakers after their opening win over Austria and England's lacklustre victory over Serbia.
They also boast a superb record over the Netherlands winning seven of the last eight games between the two teams, losing just once.
However, they are winless against the Dutch in their three European Championship meetings.
The French have been European Champions twice before, in 1984, when Michel Platini inspired the team to victory, and again in 2000 when David Trezeguet's golden goal had them the trophy in a 2-1 win over Italy.
The Netherlands won this trophy in 1988 with Ruud Gullit, Marco Van Basten, Frank Rikjaard and current manager Ronald Koeman the mainstays of the team. This current team isn't as talented as that Dutch squad, but has a number of outstanding players.
Virgil van Dijk, Memphis Depay, Cody Gakpo and youngster Xavi Simons are the players who will be focal points for the Dutch. The team lost to France twice in the qualifying campaign (4-0 in France and then 2-1 in the Netherlands). No doubt, they will want revenge for those two losses in this fixture.
The Dutch have won nine of their last 12 games, with no draws in that run. Their three defeats coming against Italy, France and Germany. They have won all their last three, scoring ten goals conceding just one.

Netherlands & France Squad Analysis
French fans will be concerned to hear that Kylian Mbappe's broken nose sustained against Austria will likely affect his availability for this key fixture. Real Madrid's newest signing is not likely to feature in the game, even with a protective mask.
Antoine Griezmann, who suffered a nasty cut to his head after colliding with an advertising board in the same game, should be fit. French boss Didier Deschamps will likely call on Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman to fill in for Mbappe if he is unable to play.
N'Golo Kante's impressive display against Austria will likely see him retain his place in midfield, but Aurielen Tchouameni or Eduoardo Camavinga could come in for Adrien Rabiot. Having looked strongly defensively against Austria, Deschamps will likely pick the same back four, with Dayot Upemecano set to continue at center-half ahead of Ibrahma Konate.
Despite scoring the winning goal for the Netherlands after coming on from the bench against Poland, Morten Weghorst is likely to continue on the bench for the Dutch in this game. Manager Ronald Koeman is likely to stick with his front trio of Cody Gakpo, Memphis Depay and Xavi Simons.
Changes could come in what was a youthful midfield line-up for the first game. Georginio Wijnaldum could come into midfield to add experience against the French. Koeman played a 3-4-3 formation last time against France, but may elect to play a back four this time around, especially after winning their opening game.

Our Netherlands vs France Prediction
Our prediction for the France v Netherlands Euro 2024 Group D game is for over 2.5 Goals to be scored. The data seems to suggest that this fixture will see a fair few goals, if recent form and the history between France and the Netherlands are anything to go by.
Certainly, the data suggesting the over 2.5 goals option is the way to go is more convincing than backing either team to win or the draw, as this fixture is a difficult one to predict with any certainty. That's despite the French having much the better of things between the two teams over the last decade.
Both teams know that while a victory will guarantee a Round of 16 spot, a draw may also be enough.
Neither will want to risk a heavy loss going into a final group game, which then becomes a tricky prospect for the loser.
Our research suggests we could be in for a classic here with certainly more than 2.5 goals scored!
Netherlands vs France - Other Interesting Predictions
Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals
The primary prediction for this game is for over 2.5 goals to be scored. We've also indicated that there is an excellent chance that both teams will find the net in what promises to be an open game.
As such, the sensitive secondary prediction for France vs the Netherlands is to combine Over 2.5 Goals with Both Teams to Score.
Memphis Depay (Netherlands) to score at any time.
Memphis Depay may currently be without a club, but he is still the focal point of the Netherlands attack. He was very bright in their opener against Poland in the first half, but did fade slightly in the second half. His pace and shooting ability are certainly the Netherlands most dangerous threat and he has a knack of scoring key goals for the Dutch.
If this game is to have a fair few goals, at both ends, then Depay is a good bet to score one of them. So our final secondary prediction for France vs the Netherlands is for Memphis Depay to score at any time.
