After a shaky start to Euro 2020, the Netherlands have grown stable and will go to their second round clash against Czech Republic as favorites. Netherlands topped Group B with straight wins while Czech finished third in Group D to set up this clash. In their opening match of the competition, the Dutch seemed to be cruising, with a 2-0 lead over Ukraine but were shocked as the Ukrainians scored two quick late goals. Denzel Dumfries would however pop up with a late winner to save their blushes and the sighs of relief were evident. The lesson was home, and there were no mistakes in the ensuing two matches – a 2-0 win over Austria and 3-0 over North Macedonia. The Dutch are now unbeaten in their last seven matches, with six wins in there and they’ve scored two or more in each of their last 10 matches. The shock defeat to Turkey in the World Cup qualifiers remains their only loss in the last 13 matches.

Czech Republic started the competition on a high, with a 2-0 win over Scotland but their fire died down as the group stage matches advanced. They drew 1-1 with Croatia in their second game before losing 1-0 to England in their final group game. Patrick Schick scored three goals in the opening two games, but apart from his brace against Scotland, he never appeared a big threat to Croatia and England. However, Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal constantly showed their attacking instincts and will be a handful to the Dutch defence. The team will however miss the services of left back Jan Boril, who picked his second yellow card in the England game and is thus suspended. They have two wins in the last six matches and just one clean sheet in eight, poking a hole on their defensive abilities. Czech Republic’s defensive frailties aside, they’ve failed to score in three of their last six matches and a combination of these two leaves them strongly as the underdogs against the Netherlands. They have two straight wins against the Dutch though, and will hope this comes to play.
