Napoli will be looking to keep their hopes for Europe alive when they host Bologna in the Italian Serie A. A tough season in Serie A, has Napoli placed eighth after 35 matches, while Bologna are fourth. At this stage last season, Napoli had bagged the league title, but they’ve fallen seriously short this time. With 51 points so far, they aren’t going to finish in the top four and are battling for any form of European football. Ahead of this game, they haven't won any of the last four matches. They run the risk of dropping to ninth this weekend, having played a game more than Fiorentina, who only trail them by a point. In the run up to this game, Napoli conceded in stoppage time to draw 1-1 with Udinese. That was their third draw in the last four matches, leaving them with just a win in the last nine matches. There isn’t much confidence in their home form either. While the former champions have only lost once in eight home games, they have only won twice in that period.

Bologna’s sustained rise in the recent seasons is close to rewarding them with European football. They’ve shown signs of running out of steam in recent matches but they will look at this as a game they can win. Heading into this encounter, they are on 64 points, four more than the sides in fifth and six – Atalanta and Roma. With Italy set to send five teams to the Champions League next season comes some comfort for Bologna. However, the fight is still on, and after their good run this season, they will be out to end it on a high. A 0-0 draw with Torino in their last outing marked their seventh unbeaten game. It was however their fourth draw in five matches and the third in that run where they failed to score. A 1-0 loss to Inter Milan early in March is Bologna’s only defeat in their last 15 matches. With that run, Bologna should feel confident enough to take on Napoli head-on. The last two meetings between them ended in draws, the most recent being a 0-0 draw.
