Lille are still in the fight for a top-three spot and their battle next takes them to survival-chasing Nantes. Hosts Nantes are a win away from survival while Lille are two points below the automatic Champions League spot. Nantes moved closer to Ligue 1 survival after a 0-0 draw with Champions League chasers Brest last time out. They are now on 33 points, four ahead of Metz, occupants of the relegation playoff spot. Once again it hasn’t been a great season for Nantes, and like last season, they won’t be able to hit 40 points. There has however been an improvement in terms of the number of wins this season. With nine wins, they already have two more victories than last season. Their fight for survival will however be hampered by the fact their last 18 matches have produced just four wins. Their draw with Brest in the last game represents a third straight winless outing and they failed to score in two of those three games. That however doesn’t fully denote their poor run as their home form will indicate. In the league this season, they have just three wins at home, and none of those came in the last eight. The hosts come into this game on eight straight home losses in Ligue 1.

Lille are coming off the losing end of a seven-goal thriller, falling 4-3 at home to Lyon last week. With that, they will head to this game seeking to recover. Lille will definitely take lessons from the Lyon game, having led 2-0 at halftime, and 3-2 with five minutes to go. That defeat was their second in three league matches and a serious dent to their top-three ambitions. Now they find themselves two points behind third-placed Brest. On a brighter note for Lille though, they have four wins in their last six league games and failed to score just once in 13 league games. They also hold a stat they’d want to come to the fore here. For each of their last six Ligue 1 losses this season, Lille responded with a win. That will work well with their head-to-head advantage against Nantes, Lille having not lost any of their last 17 matches against their hosts. The last time the two sides faced off, in August, Lille cruised to a 2-0 victory, their second straight win over Les Canaris.
