Ligue Two Nancy welcome high flying Ligue 1 team to the Stade Marcel Picot for this round of 16 clash in the French Cup. Nancy are having a terrible season in Ligue Two and are sitting at the bottom of the table with 12 points from 19 matches. They seem set to be relegated even at this early stage of the season as they are eight points from safety. They have lost their last four league matches but have been on a great Cup run. In the last round they beat Ligue One team Troyes on penalties. It was one of the most remarkable wins in the French Cup as the last placed team in Ligue 2 won the match playing with just eight players. They had three players sent off and this unbelievable achievement will give them confidence against Rennes. This was also an away win to top the achievement.
Rennes were in second spot in Ligue 1 just a few weeks ago but now find themselves in fourth position. This drop down the table is due to them losing three of their last four league matches. They will be most disappointed with their last loss, a 2-1 defeat to Monaco after the squandered the lead. They had a good win in their previous round of the Cup where they beat fellow Ligue 1 rivals Lorient 1-0. Their loss to Monaco broke a run of nine away matches without defeat. They will be keen to bounce back and show that was just a blip in their season.
