Botswana and Namibia are looking to seal qualification to the next round of the COSAFA Cup when they meet on Tuesday. The two nations have been fighting it out in Group A where Botswana sit second and Namibia fourth. Anything other than a win in this match will see Namibia eliminated. A win will not mean direct qualification either, as they will hope Eswatini lose to South Africa also on Saturday. Collin Benjamin’s charges drew 1-1 with South Africa on matchday one. But they were unable to build on that and lost 2-1 to Eswatini last time out. The loss to Eswatini extended the former COSAFA champions’ search for a win to three matches now. They have struggled defensively and this has precipitated this dip in form.
Botswana began the tournament with a 1-0 win over Eswatini but lost 2-1 to South Africa in their second match. They edge Eswatini, whom they are tied with on three points, for second place thanks to their head-to-head advantage. Mogomotsi Mpote’s men have their destiny in their hands and now only have to match Eswatini’s result against South Africa to qualify. The Zebras have twice finished as runners-up in the regional tournament with the latest being in 2019.
