Motherwell continue their battle against relegation from the Scottish Premiership. They won their last game and are now ninth but face a tough fixture this weekend at home to third placed Hearts. Wednesday saw them beat fifth placed St Mirren 2-1 at home, both goals coming in the first 18 minutes. That ended a run of 11 league games without a win stretching back to a 3-2 loss away to Hearts in early November. Only four points have been earned from those 11 games. The three points from midweek mean they are now two points ahead of the relegation play-off position and three above the automatic relegation spot. Motherwell had gone nine home league matches without a win before beating St Mirren. With just nine points from 12 home Scottish Premiership games, they have the worst home record in the league.
Hearts are third in the table and can be called 'the best of the rest.' They are 19 points behind second placed Rangers and 28 adrift of league leaders Celtic. There's a gap of seven points between Hearts and fourth placed Livingston so it's looking like European football for them next season. Hearts have only lost three of their last 15 league matches, two to Rangers and one against Celtic. They have won their last two matches, including a Scottish Cup win at Hamilton last weekend. Away league form has seen them only win three out of 12 games with four losses. Only one of their last five away Scottish Premiership matches have been won. They did win 3-0 at Motherwell in September and beat them 3-2 at home in November. Back Hearts to get three points.
