Group C of the Portuguese League Cup enters the final round of fixures, with a qualification-deciding clash between Moreirense and Benfica stealing the show. With the two sides locked at the summit of the group having accrued six points each, it is winner takes all at the Joaquim de Almeida Freitas Stadium, with the hosts prevailing in the case of the draw due to a superior goal difference. Moreirense confirmed the immense form they have been in recent games, with their 4-2 win over Estrela Amadora making it two out of two in the group. The home side have now won eight of their last eleven matchups, losing just twice in the process. They have also been in stellar scoring form, managing to put at least three goals past their opponents in six of those eleven games. This record is even better on home turf, with Moreirense having scored a total of sixteen goals in their last five matchups. The only downside has to be their poor record when hosting Benfica, having lost five of their last six home encounters against the Lisbon Eagles.   

We have to turn back the calendar to the 7th of May to witness Benfica’s last competitive defeat, while they have won thirty of those said unbeaten games, a truly remarkable run. Their away record has been equally astonishing. They have avoided defeat in each of their last nineteen on the road, albeit conceding in five of their last seven away encounters. Thus, while Benfica remain an almost unbeatable juggernaut, their defensive solidity raises some questions, especially taking into account the World Cup sanctions absences, including recently eliminated players who will be enjoying a well-deserved break. The visitors conceded twice in the other away game taking place amidst that period, against Estrela, and against a potent Moreirense side, they could fall to the same fate, although no one is backing against them to prevail out of the contest.
