It’s one of the busiest weeks in the history of Liverpool FC and a complicated one too as they face Mexican side Monterrey. While back in England, their younger players try to reach the EFL Cup semi-final, the full first team squad are in Qatar for this FIFA Club World Cup semi-final.

Liverpool take a break from the Premier League that they currently lead by ten points. They already hold the European and European Super Cup titles, now they bid to become world champions. Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 19 league and cup games with all but two of them being won. They have kept clean sheets in their last three games and in just one of their last 13 have they failed to score at least twice.

Monterrey have qualified for this tournament as a result of their win in the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League. That saw them defeat teams such as Atlanta United, Sporting Kansas City and UNAL. The latter named side are also from Mexico and were beaten 2-1 on aggregate in the final. They are regular competitors in this competition but their best result is a fourth placed finish. So far in this year’s Club World Cup, Monterrey have beaten Al-Sadd in a 3-2 thriller. They led 2-0 and 3-1 but hung on for the victory.
