A return to winning ways is top of Borussia Dortmund’s agenda as they travel to Borussia Monchengladbach for their next Bundesliga game. Monchengladbach are eight points above the relegation playoff position while Dortmund are locked out of the top four by their inferior goal difference. It thus means both sides have a lot to play for here. Monchengladbach’s poor season has them on 31 points and it means additional pressure in the final six matches of the campaign. With a loss here, they could drop a further two places down. They have two straight defeats against Dortmund, which may lead them into this encounter as the underdogs. Two wins only in their last 12 matches isn’t a great run to be carrying into such an important game. Of their low moments this season, their recent elimination from the DFB Pokal by Saarbrucken must be the most telling. They however come into this game with a bounce in their step having beaten Wolfsburg 3-1 last time out. As they seek to build on that win, Monchengladbach will hope to keep things tight at the back. They’ve conceded in each of their last seven league matches, and have only two clean sheets in 17.

Borussia Dortmund are coming from their second straight defeat and will be looking to bounce back here. In their midweek Champions League encounter, they lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid in Spain. That journey, plus additional fatigue after a midweek game are among factors that could work against them here. To improve on their recent results, Dortmund, like Monchengladbach, should consider tightening up defensively. In their last 10 matches, they kept just three clean sheets while they failed to score only once in 11. Both teams also scored in four of Dortmund’s last six away matches in all competitions. In recent matches against Monchengladbach, Dortmund have been dominant, winning four of six. However, they managed just one clean sheet in five, with both sides scoring in the last three meetings.
