Venezuelan side Monagas will play host to Argentine giants Boca Juniors as the two start their journey in the Copa Libertadores, drawn in Group F of the competition. Monagas are coming from a 3-0 loss to Carabobo in domestic action. That was their second straight winless outing after earlier drawing 1-1 with Estudiantes de Merida. The failure to score in their last game was their only shutout in the last five matches but they’ve managed more than a goal in just two of their last six matches. The hosts will come really short in terms of experience in this competition, as this will be only their ninth game in the Copa Libertadores. Boca Juniors are coming from two straight wins in domestic action and will want to build on that as they seek to go top of Group F this early. They thrashed Barracas Central 3-0 away from home in the last game and having reached the Round of 16 in this competition last season, they will be fired up for this new campaign. The Argentines were eliminated by Brazilian side Corinthians in the last game, and their attack was to blame for much of that as they failed to score across the two legs. Low numbers in attack is one concern Boca Juniors have dealt with for a while in this competition; they have scored more than a goal in just one of 10 matches in the Copa Libertadores. All the last 10 of Boca Juniors’ matches in the Copa Libertadores have had under 2.5 goals and away from home in the competition, they’ve failed to score in eight of 10.
