Both Monaco and Lille advanced in the French Cup after their outings last week. Now focus shifts to Ligue 1 action where they face off, with Monaco hosting this game that could have a big impact on the title race and top four. Fourth placed Monaco have 55 points, seven below league leaders Lille. Monaco have the poorest defence among the top four teams, having conceded 38 goals, but recently had a defensive masterclass to shut out PSG and went on to win 2-0. That is one of the three clean sheets they’ve kept in the last five matches, while they’ve scored twice in four of the last five matches, and only failed to score once. In their last 15 matches, Monaco have done so well, winning 12, losing once. The 1-0 loss to Strasbourg at the start of March was a shock and remains their only loss in 13 Ligue 1 matches. In their last five Ligue 1 matches, Monaco have scored 10 goals and conceded six. At home, they have just one league loss and nine wins in the 15 matches played. In the December meeting between these two sides, Lille won 2-1.

The next three weeks or so will shape Lille’s season. After this game against Monaco, they have two matches against PSG, in the cup and Ligue 1, sandwiching a clash against Nimes. If they can come out of their next four matches unscathed, then they will be very close to at least two pieces of silverware. The race for the Ligue 1 title as it is, is a four-horse race, which Lille tops at the moment by two points but they’ve not been very convincing lately. In their last league game, Lille beat Marseille 2-0 but both goals came in the final minute. In the Cup game against lower tier side Gazelec Ajaccio, they needed an own goal to be able to advance and earlier, they had to leave it late to draw with struggling Strasbourg. That was right after Ajax eliminated them from the Europa League. While Lille are unbeaten in their last 10 league matches, with eight wins, they are running out of steam and will soon get exposed. Away from home, they are unbeaten in eight matches in the league and head here with seven straight wins. They’ve lost just once in the last 13 away league matches.
