Monaco will return from the international break to a top game, against Lille in the French Ligue 1 this Friday. Les Monégasques, leading the standings, host Les Dogues, who start the weekend in fifth spot. Here’s a look at the match-defining stats and a prediction.

Monaco glided their way to the top of Ligue 1 before the championship took a two-week break. They got there courtesy of a 2-1 win away to Rennes in an extension of their good start to the season.

Adi Hütter’s charges will be eyeing a 10th undefeated outing of the season here. They have seven wins in the nine matches played so far. A standout player to look out for will be Folarin Balogun who has scored in each of the last three league matches.

After a brief lapse, Lille are back at their best and to this game they will be carrying a four-game unbeaten run. The visitors will be targeting a fourth straight win to continue with their rise up the Ligue 1 standings.

Before the break, Lille rose two places up following a second half comeback to hit Toulouse 2-1 at home. Having already lost four times this season, Bruno Genesio’s men will carry the underdogs’ tag to this match.

However, the side that recently beat the reigning European champions, will command a bit more respect. They have two wins in the last four meetings with Monaco.

With five goals in the last four matches, Jonathan David will be Lille’s man to watch. He hasn’t scored in this fixture since bagging a brace in 2021 and will hope to end that run here.
