Gameweek nine in the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers will see Moldova playing host to Albania on Friday. The hosts are currently in fourth place in Group E, while the visitors lead the way. Czechia, Poland and the Faroe Islands are the other teams in the group. With two games left to go, Moldova cannot afford any more dropped points if they are to progress. They have managed nine points in six games so far and are two points behind Czechia in second place. The Tricolours held Poland to a 1-1 draw in their last match, which extended their unbeaten run in this competition to three matches following back-to-back wins. The only loss they have suffered was against this opponent back in June. Moldova have not beaten Albania in their last six attempts and are clear outsiders in this encounter. 

Meanwhile, Albania come into this match with all the momentum. They played a friendly at home to Bulgaria last month and claimed a 2-0 win. That followed a 3-0 victory over Czechia in this competition a week earlier. The Red and Blacks are now on 13 points, and a win here will guarantee them at least a top-two finish. The visitors are also on a three-match winning streak and unbeaten in six consecutive matches. Their only defeat in this competition came back in week one when Poland overcame them 1-0 on the road. The Albanians are the highest goal-scorers in the group as well, with 11, including two or more in five of their six games. They are heavily backed to book their place in the main draw with a victory in this one.
