Week three in the Indian Super League will see Punjab FC play host to Northeast United on Friday. The hosts are currently second-bottom after two matches, while the visitors are in sixth place. Punjab FC are the latest entrant to the Indian Super League. They became the first club to be promoted to the top flight after winning the 2022-23 I-League. However, their introduction to the Super League has not gone well so far. They have lost both their matches to date, beaten 3-1 by Mohun Bagan over opening week and 1-0 by Goa last weekend. Punjab are one of three sides that are yet to register a point this season, along with Hyderabad and Chennaiyin. The hosts were unbeaten in the final 12 home matches of last season and will be hoping to find the same sort of form in their first home game now in the top flight. 

While Northeast United are in the top half of the table at the moment, it will be interesting to see how long they can remain there. The visitors were very poor last season and ended at the bottom of the Super League. Across the 20-game season, they only managed five points and lost a whopping 17 matches. While they did win their last match, it is worth noting that result brought an end to a five-match winless run in all competitions. It was also their first league win in 10 matches dating back to December last year. This will be the visitors' first away game this season. Their form on the road has been terrible of late, as they failed to win a single away match last season and are winless in 22 matches in all competitions. Still, against a newly-promoted opponent here, Northeast will fancy their chances of going two wins in two for the first time in over a year.
