Punjab FC will host Kerala Blasters on Thursday hoping to earn their first win of the 2023/24 Indian Super League campaign. The two sides sit on opposite ends of the standings with Kerala second and Pujab second from bottom. Punjab have drawn five of their nine matches and are one of two teams yet to register a win. They have lost four times though none of those defeats has come at home. Staikos Vergetis’ men have avoided defeat in their last three games with the most recent one ending 0-0 against East Bengal. The Shers, who won the I-League last season (second tier), are the first-ever team to be promoted to the Indian topflight. Their debut campaign has proved difficult to navigate. Punjab have conceded the joint second-most goals with 16 and have scored just eight in return.

Kerala Blasters have one of the more lethal strike forces and will hope to take full advantage of Punjab’s porous rearguard. Thursday’s visitors have scored 13 goals in nine outings which is the joint second-best tally. Two of their players have already put themselves on the top scorers list. Kerala’s superb form upfront has thrust them to within three points of top spot. They have amassed 17 points after winning five and drawing two of their nine games. The Blasters have however played a game more than leaders Goa. This will be the second-ever competitive match between Kerala and Punjab. The two teams first met in the AIFF Super Cup back in April where Kerala won 3-1. Kerala, who haven't taken to the pitch in almost two weeks, suffered a 1-0 loss against Goa in their last match.
