Middlesbrough will look to move closer to the playoff spots in the Championship when they travel to face Millwall on Saturday afternoon. The hosts are currently in 15th place in the league standings, while the visitors are 12th. After finishing comfortably in the top six last season, Middlesbrough have failed to follow up on that performance so far this term. They are on 36 points after 26 matches and trailing the top six by four points. It’s been a mixed week for Boro, as they went crashing out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa but bounced back to claim a huge scalp, beating Chelsea in the League Cup in midweek. Their last league outing ended in a 3-1 loss to Coventry City and also saw them shed two spots in the league standings. On the road this season, the Smoggies have a record of five wins, two draws and six losses, though they have won three of their last four away games. As a result, the bookies have made them marginal favourites in this match. 

Meanwhile, Millwall came agonisingly close to a playoff spot last season, but like their opponents in this match, they have experienced a notable drop-off this term. The Lions are on 32 points after 26 matches but with the mid-table still being very compact a run of two or three consecutive victories could see them jump in ranking quite quickly. Millwall were also knocked out of the FA Cup last week, beaten 3-2 in a very entertaining match against league leaders Leicester City. However, they return to league competition here where they are unbeaten in their last four matches and also managed to keep clean sheets in each of those games. At home, the hosts are also unbeaten in four games, with two wins and two draws. Millwall won the reverse fixture 1-0 in August and are perhaps a little surprisingly priced as the underdogs here.
