Middlesbrough vs West Brom Prediction & Betting Tips - Championship
by Donal Kearns | in Championship Predictions
Middlesbrough host West Brom in the Championship. Middlesbrough won home and away against West Brom last season, as Tony Pulis took revenge on his former employers. However, those wins weren’t enough to lift Boro into the playoff spots, while this term the hosts are in a relegation battle. Jonathan Woodgate has taken over from Pulis, failing to deliver much with a side which is miles away from where they were last season. The hosts wanted to see improvements in the style of play at the Riverside following a dour year under Pulis, but things aren’t getting that much better. While Boro are a little more offensive, they’re also more open at the back. That’s led to some poor results for the home side, who now sit just two points clear of the drop after missing out on a top-six finish back in May. While Middlesbrough are dealing with their drop off, West Brom are a side transformed this term. The feeling around the club is much different, with a rebalancing of the squad taking the Baggies top of the league.
The leaders have been in fine form this term as they look to improve on last term’s playoff semi-final exit. The visitors are doing a fine job of that, managing to lose their two 20-goal strikers and yet improve the team overall. West Brom head here with three victories in their last four, which has pushed them top of the league in a tight promotion race. The Baggies have hit 1.91 goals per game so far this season, losing just once all campaign. However, the visitors haven’t had the greatest return on the road this season, having conceded the first goal in 83% of their away games. On the other hand, West Brom have scored in 91% of their Championship games.

Our Middlesbrough vs West Brom Prediction
There’s an opening here for Boro, who have scored in five of their six matches at the Riverside this term. They’ve scored in each of their last five at home, while they have failed to find the net in just one of their last eight league games. With Boro seeing both teams score in three of their last four at home, we are backing both teams to score in this one. We’re also backing the hosts to pull off a draw here, with West Brom getting mixed results on their travels. Their last four trips have seen them lose only once, while Boro have one defeat in five at home. The Baggies have failed to win in four against Boro, so we are going with a 1-1 draw between these two sides on Saturday.
