Middlesbrough face Leeds in a key Championship game for the visitors on Monday. The home side don’t have too much riding on the game as they lie ninth in the table, well clear of relegation but also likely too far adrift to be realistic playoff contenders. Michael Carrick’s home team have been in good form of late, unbeaten in their last nine. However they have scored just 14 goals in those nine contests, keeping clean sheets in five of those games. They picked up a point last weekend in a 1-1 draw away to another promotion-chaser, Ipswich. Boro average just 1.14 goals at home this season, compared to 1.68 goals away from home.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke will know his side cannot afford any more slip-ups if they are to finish inside the top two this season. Currently, Leeds lie third in the table after 43 games on 87 points, a point behind Leicester in second (who have only played 42 games) and two behind leaders Ipswich Town. However, the poor form of the top three of late has allowed Southampton back into the equation, with the Saints now just three points behind Leeds with a game in hand. Leeds have collected just one point from the last three games, scoring just one goal in that run, conceding three. It certainly promises to be a nervy evening for Leeds fans on Monday night.
