Middlesbrough vs Chelsea Prediction & Betting Tips - FA Cup
by Indran | in FA Cup Predictions
Middlesbrough and Chelsea are set for a quarter final clash in front of a sold out crowd at the Riverside Stadium. The home team will be excited to be playing this match at home as they have played their last three matches on the road. They have however picked up four points in these matches which sees them equal on points with the team in the last promotional playoff spot. Middlesbrough are enjoying their best run in the FA Cup since 2017 and have been on a giant killing spree as they dumped Premier League heavyweights Tottenham and Manchester United out in the previous rounds. Middlesbrough have lost all eight previous encounters against Chelsea going back to 2006 without even scoring a single goal. They have lost on their four previous quarter finals appearances with their last semi-final appearance being in the 2005/06 season.
Chelsea have had many off field distractions but their form on the field has been excellent. They won 2-1 away to Lille in their last match which made it five straight wins for the Londoners. Chelsea have only lost once in their last 13 matches across all competitions with that defeat coming in the League Cup final against Liverpool. They have won three of their previous FA Cup ties with Middlesbrough with the solidatary loss coming in a third round tie in the 1992-93 season. In their last eight matches against Middlesbrough, Chelsea have scored 19 goals without conceding one. Chelsea have won their last six away matches.

Our Middlesbrough vs Chelsea Prediction
Middlesbrough have built their great Cup run on a miserly defence and will again look to keep a clean sheet. Chelsea have also been excellent in defence so goals could be a scarcity in this match. The beauty of the FA Cup is that league positions count for nothing on the day so expect Middlesbrough to defend their goal line as if their life depends on it. We are backing the under 2.5 goals option in this match.
