Middlesbrough could only draw with Preston North End on Tuesday and that saw them drop out of the automatic promotion spots in the Championship. They are down to third in the table and a point off the top two and have now drawn four of their last six league games. It's a tight division and those draws could prove costly in the long run. Boro are unbeaten in their last seven games with just one loss in the last 12 matches. Home form  is a bit of a worry for them at present with just one win in the last five and each of their last eight home league games have had under 2.5 goals scored in them.

Aston Villa drew 5-5 with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday which is the same number of goals scored in the last eight home Middlesbrough games in the Championship. They have scored 12 goals in their last three league games but two of those were at home. It's too early to say whether they are having a revival under their new manager Dean Smith but they aren't having problems scoring goals. Conceding seven goals in their last two games isn't much to write home about. A difficult game to predict, though a 5-5 thriller doesn't look likely, go for a draw.
