Internacional will look to get back to winning ways when they face a winless Metropolitanos in Group B of the Copa Libertadores. This match at the Estadio Olímpico de la UCV in Caracas will see the fourth-placed hosts play the second-placed Brazilian visitors. Metropolitanos are making their group stage debut in the competition but it hasn’t gone to plan so far. They started with a 2-1 defeat to Nacional and swiftly fell to a 1-0 loss to Internacional. On matchday three, they were beaten 4-2 by Independiente Medellin to keep them rooted to the bottom of points table. One of the three goals they scored was an own goal, so it is clear that they need to improve their output in the final third to be any threat. Unfortunately, their domestic form has also been poor in this campaign. The 2022 Venezuelan champions are currently fifth in the domestic league standings, 13 points behind leaders after 14 matches.

The two-time Copa Libertadores winner Internacional are back in the competition group stage after the 2020-21 season. They are yet to stamp their authority though, with an up and down campaign so far. After drawing 1-1 with Independiente Medellin in their opening match, they won 1-0 in the reverse fixture against Metropolitanos. It was followed by a 2-2 draw against Nacional keeping them two points behind them in the points standings. The challenge for the visitors is to improve on their recent form which has been dire. After matchday three of this competition, they went on to lose five competitive matches, four in the domestic league. This has left them 15th in the league standings and just a point above the relegation zone after seven rounds. They would be keen to use this match to get back to winning ways, which could also help them restore their league credentials.
