Melbourne City's lead at the top of the A-League has been cut to one point. However, they have two games in hand and look to extend their lead with a home win over Newcastle Jets who began the weekend in eighth place. Adelaide United have won four successive league games to close the gap on City. The league leaders have only earned four points from their last three fixtures but this looks an ideal opportunity to get a home win. Melbourne City have only won one of their last six away league fixtures but it's a different story on home soil. They have won six of their last seven home league matches and scored 23 goals in their wins. The league leaders are the only side who are yet to lose a home game. Overall, they have won seven and drawn two of their nine A-League home fixtures and only lost once in the past 13 months.

Newcastle Jets still have hopes of making it into the play-offs. They began the weekend only two points behind sixth placed Sydney FC. However, their current form is not that of a side that belongs in the play-offs. Newcastle have only earned one point from their last four games in the A-League. They'd lost three in a row before a 2-2 draw at home to Perth Glory conceding a 97th minute equalizer. They have conceded 11 goals in their last four games and are likely to struggle against the Melbourne City attack. Only three away league games have been won by Newcastle Jets this season and just eight goals scored in ten games. They last played City in October and lost 2-1 at home and their last visit to Melbourne City saw them lose 3-0 in February of last year. Back City to win this and lead at both half and full time.
