Senegal will be looking to go top of Group B when they travel to Mauritania for their fourth game of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The former African champions start this game placed second, on five points, four more than their hosts who are bottom of the pool. Mauritania are targeting their first win of these qualifiers, having emerged as one of the weakest sides in Group B. It won’t help that they come here having lost their last two matches against Senegal, and they did so without scoring. Mauritania haven't been in the best shape either, failing to win any of their last four matches. They actually failed to score in those four matches and have only won once in their last 11 matches. Here the Lions of Teranga will be on a mission to go back on top. It will mean they go for a win while hoping Sudan, who are two points ahead, falter. While they’ll want to look at the midweek result as a setback, Senegal remain unbeaten in normal time in their last 11 matches. Their only loss in that period came through post match penalties after a 1-1 draw with Cote d’Ivoire at AFCON. In those 11 matches, Senegal have conceded only three goals, while only failing to score once. This mix of solidity in defence and a good attack place them as clear favorites here. They also have a good run in World Cup qualification, losing just once in 18 matches and winning 10. However, in the last seven World Cup qualification matches, Senegal managed more than a goal in just two.
