Marseille vs Olympiacos Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League
by Daniel Ngulu | in Champions League Predictions
Olympique Marseille warmed up for their UEFA Champions League Group C home game against Olympiakos with a 3-1 win over Nantes in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday. The French side goes to the Tuesday clash hoping for their first win in the group. They have no point so far and are placed bottom while Greek side Olympiakos has three points going to Match Day 5. One biggest failing Marseille have had so far this season, is that they keep very few clean sheets. Against Nantes, they were dominant, starting the rout in the second minute and even with a 3-0 lead with 18 minutes to go, they couldn’t play for a clean sheet. In the end, they have just two clean sheets in their last 13 matches. Meanwhile, they have failed to score in three of their last five matches, and all of these have been in the Champions League. Actually, they have no goal so far in Group C. The porous defence has cost them massively so far, and heading to this clash they have conceded nine goals in their last five matches, and scored four. Marseille, the most successful French team in the Champions League has not had a great return to the competition after seven years out. They lost 1-0 to Olympiakos in their opening game of the 2020/21 campaign and the home loss to Porto on Match Day 4 means they have now lost 13 straight Champions League matches. It is no longer possible for the French side to advance to the second round and they can only play for a third place finish to stay in Europe. That too will be tough, seeing that in their last six Champions League matches, they have scored just one goal, while they have conceded two or more goals in their last six home matches in the competition. This game will be the fourth meeting with Olympiakos in the Champions League; Marseille have never scored a goal against the Greek side.
Olympiakos still has a slim chance of advancing to the second round, but it is not entirely in their hands. They hope that Manchester City can beat FC Porto in the other Match Day 5 clash, then they win their remaining two matches – against Marseille and Porto, and with a good margin. Olympiakos head to France with six wins and five clean sheets in their last 10 matches. One of the clean sheets was registered against Marseille in the 1-0 win on Match Day 1. However, it has been downwards from then, and the Greeks have not scored in the last three Champions League matches. In their last six Champions League matches, Olympiakos have scored in just two and they have three wins and four clean sheets in their last seven Champions League matches. Olympiakos had a comfortable outing in their domestic league on Saturday, beating Aris 2-1 to make it 10 unbeaten in the league. They will however need that form in Europe to be able to advance in the topmost competition on the continent. That form has largely evaded them, especially when playing away from home and as they prepare for this assault, they are winless in six straight away matches in the Champions League. They have also failed to score in four of the six away Champions League matches and will be hoping for a shift in France, especially with their unbeaten run against the French side.

Our Marseille vs Olympiacos Prediction
Olympiakos have never lost to Marseille and while that may not mean a lot in this game, it could serve to give them the confidence they need heading to the final two group matches. The Greek side has a better run in recent matches and even in the Champions League compared to Marseille and will want to shock the former European champs. However, Olympiakos lack that edge when playing away from home, and this is what Marseille will want to cash in on. It has not been fruitful for Marseille either; in the Champions League, they have no win in 13 matches and they have struggled in attack too. Both sides will go here badly in need of three points but with their particular shortcomings, we see this ending in a draw.
