Olympique Marseille will hope to keep their hopes for Europe alive when they host Metz in their next Ligue 1 match. Heading into this game, Marseille are placed eighth while Metz are 16th, just a place above the relegation zone. Marseille have so far garnered 29 points, which place them seven points behind the European slots. Their loss to Lyon in the last game didn’t help them, as Alexandre Lacazette’s 37th minute strike condemned them to a 1-0 defeat. That loss also marked a fourth straight winless outing for Marseille, losing twice in that run. In Ligue 1 action, Marseille have failed to win any of their last four matches, though three of them ended in draws. They also have no clean sheet in four league matches ahead of this, while both sides scored in four of five league games. The hosts can bank on a good scoring run in recent league matches, failing to net in just one of the last five. Marseille’s story at home is however different. They haven't lost in 10 league matches at home this season. Coming into this game however, they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in three home league games, with both teams scoring. Both teams have also scored in six of seven meetings between these two sides.

Metz, just like Marseille, are in dire need of the three points on offer here. Only goal difference is keeping them off the automatic relegation slots. The fact that they have just one loss in the last six meetings with Marseille should give them hope. However, Metz have won none of those six games, as five ended in draws. They come into this game on a very poor run, having failed to win any of their last eight matches, one being in the French Cup. Metz have also struggled to keep clean sheets, but in three of their last five matches, both teams scored. A big dent in their survival battle came in the 2-1 loss to Lorient in their last outing seeing Lorient go level with them on points. That was their seventh straight defeat in the league. Metz have managed just two wins in their last 15 league matches and have no clean sheet in 10 league games. Three straight away loss in the league further complicates their chances here.
