Marseille welcome Manchester City to the Velodrome for a Group C clash in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The hosts will be looking for their first points of this European campaign after succumbing to a late winner in a 1-0 defeat to Olympiakos in the group opener. City, meanwhile, are top of the pile going into matchday two after a 3-1 win over Porto at the Etihad last week. That match wasn't without its controversies with Porto feeling like they were hard done by the officials both on the pitch and in the video assistance room. This will be the first meeting between these two clubs in Europe. Marseille have not won their last six games against English clubs in European competition. More interesting, however, is the fact that City have failed to win their last four matches against French teams in Europe, the most recent of which was a 3-1 defeat to Lyon in last season's UCL. It could serve as the blueprint for Marseille success in this fixture. City have looked fragile at the back in recent games, failing to keep a clean sheet in their last four matches in all competitions. Marseille will fancy their chances against that defence. They are unbeaten in three home matches in all competitions and bounced back from that midweek defeat by beating Lorient in domestic action. 

While we believe City are susceptible to clever counter-attacks, Marseille's dodgy continental record may hold them back from taking advantage of these weaknesses. The French side have lost their last ten Champions League matches, a run that dates back to 2012. City have now failed to win their last two matches on the road. We suggest backing Marseille with a plus-two handicap.
