AEK Athens will be away to Marseille on Thursday seeking to maintain their lead in Group B of this season’s Europa League. After two rounds of play, AEK lead the group and have a two-point cushion on second-placed Marseille. Marseille have drawn their first two matches in this group. After battling to impressively hold Ajax to a 3-3 draw in Amsterdam, OM were themselves held at home in their next match. The French side relinquished a two-goal lead on matchday two to draw 2-2 with Brighton. Les Olympiens have been unimpressive so far this season and have recorded only three victories across all competitions. Their struggles brought about a coaching change with Gennaro Gattuso replacing Marcelino a month ago. Marseille have won only one of their last eight games and are coming off a 1-0 defeat away to Nice.

AEK Athens have amassed four points from their opening two rounds in Group B. Matias Almeyda’s men began things off with a 3-2 victory away to Brighton before a 1-1 draw at home against Ajax. That draw kickstarted another unbeaten run for the Greek champions that is currently at three games. AEK have won their last two games which have all ended in similar 3-0 scorelines. Before losing 2-0 to OFI in the Super League at the start of October, the Union had gone five games without a defeat. They won four matches in that run with three of those victories coming away from home.
