Not much seems to be going right at Maritzburg United and after their opening loss in the Premier Soccer League, they will be looking to win at home when they take on Cape Town City. Maritzburg suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Baroka on Saturday, just days after falling by the same margin to Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 Cup. This latest defeat left them on four straight defeats and winless in their last eight matches. The hosts have also been very poor defensively, an issue that started last season and has been carried on to this. In their last eight matches they have just one clean sheet, though they have scored in eight of their last 10 matches. It has however been a bit better at home and they will be glad to be back at the Harry Gwala Stadium. While their last home match ended in a loss to Orlando Pirates, that is their only home loss in the last nine matches at their backyard. They are winless in their last three home matches though, and have failed to score in their last two. In their last six matches, Maritzburg have not been able to score more than one goal and in the last six meetings with Cape Town City, five have produced under 2.5 goals.
On the other hand, Cape Town City opened their league campaign with a 1-1 draw with Chippa United. They should have won the game, but after taking a 22nd minute lead, they went into a lapse and Chippa managed to pull the leveler in the second half. This result left Cape Town winless in two straight matches but they have a much better run compared to their hosts. They have won six of their last 10 matches and failed to score in just three of the 10. However, they haven’t scored more than a goal in their last four matches, a feat they have managed in just two of their last 10 matches. With just two wins in their last 18 away matches, Cape Town will be hoping they can get a better run on the road starting here.
