Manchester United vs Southampton Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League
by Steve Ashfield | in Premier League Predictions
Manchester United will be looking to go 18 games unbeaten in all competitions when they host 12th placed Southampton in the Premier League on Monday. United are fifth in the table, one point behind Leicester in fourth and two behind Chelsea in third. While fifth is currently high enough to qualify for the Champions League, that will only remain the case if Manchester City's appeal against their European ban is unsuccessful. United will not want to rely on issues out of their control and if they will win all of their remaining games, they won't have to, as they face Leicester on the final day. Southampton, meanwhile, have no relegation worries and qualifying for European football is still a possibility. If certain results in other competitions happen, eighth place could be high enough to qualify for the early stages of the Europa League. Southampton are six points away from eighth, but, given their fixtures and how competitive that race is, capturing that spot is unlikely. They can be proud of the season they have had though.
The highlight for any Saints fan will be the form of Danny Ings. The forward is in contention for the Golden Boot with his 19 goals putting him third in the standings behind Vardy and Aubameyang. No player has scored a greater percentage of his team's overall goals tally than Ings' 44 per cent. His teammates have been playing well too, with a tremendous defensive display behind a win over Manchester City, one of three victories in their league games since returning.
While their form is good, it doesn't compare to a United side breaking records. United's 3-0 victory over Aston Villa meant they become the first side to win four consecutive Premier League games by a margin of three goals or more. All of their forwards are getting in on the act - with 18-year-old Mason Greenwood getting better by the game - but the player we would advise backing in the goals department is Paul Pogba. The French midfielder has been brilliant since returning to the side and got off the mark for the season with a brilliant placed strike into the bottom corner against Villa. His partnership with Bruno Fernandes has reinvigorated him and we see this goal being the first of a handful before the season ends. Back Pogba to score anytime.

Our Manchester United vs Southampton Prediction
With speculation that he's about to sign a new contract ongoing, the spotlight seems to be shining brighter on Paul Pogba and his performances haven't dimmed in this setting. Instead, he's been flourishing and looks back to his best, as his man-of-the-match display against Aston Villa showed. Danny Ings is worth considering as an anytime scorer due to his away record but we expect United to dominate and Pogba to have more scoring opportunities. Back the midfielder as an anytime selection.
