Manchester United - Nottingham Forest: Form Analysis
It’s been a shaky start to the new year for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United squad. They were arguably second-best in their season opener at home against Wolves and walked away with a fortunate three points. Their most recent outing resulted in a 2-0 away defeat to Spurs which saw the Red Devils start brightly but quickly fade in the second half. United’s attack has been misfiring to start the year with only a single goal to their names despite having registered a total of six clear cut chances. They may well suffer again as they come up against a Forest team that made things extremely frustrating for last season’s runners-up Arsenal at the Emirates.
Nottingham Forest got their first points of the season on the board in dramatic fashion last weekend with a 2-1 home win over Sheffield United. Things looked set to be heading towards a 1-1 draw before former Newcastle target man Chris Wood headed home the winner in the 89th minute. It was a deserved victory for Steve Cooper’s men who were able to limit the Blades to only 0.50 expected goals and zero clear cut chances created. Despite conceding a goal, it was overall another very strong defensive showing. This was off the heels of a matchup against Arsenal which saw Forest concede twice in the first 35 minutes but respond excellently. They were largely the better side in the second half and gave the Gunners a scare with a goal in the 82nd minute.

Manchester United & Nottingham Forest Squad Analysis
Erik ten Hag will be without eight players for the visit of Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Among those names is new signing Rasmus Hojlund with the Danish striker yet to make his debut since his big money move from Atalanta. Ten Hag could really use the 20-year-old’s services as Manchester United have really lacked a cutting edge in front of goal. They’ll also be without another summer signing in Mason Mount for the foreseeable future. The former Chelsea man is set to miss the next four to six weeks with a hamstring injury, presenting another blow to the Reds creative attacking output. Combative defender Lisandro Martinez is also a doubt for this one, meaning Swede Victor Lindelof will likely partner matchday one goalscorer Raphael Varane at the back.
Steve Cooper has a few injury concerns of his own ahead of the trip to Manchester. Experienced defender Felipe, goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey and fullback Omar Richards are all sidelined for this encounter. Forest are still waiting on the fitness of left wing-back Ola Aina but early signs suggest that the Nigerian will be able to take his position on the left side of the formation for this one. Taiwo Awoniyi will be the danger man for the visitors as the Nottingham Forest number nine has scored a goal in each of the first two matches of the season. Chris Wood will be pushing for a start after his winning goal last week but will likely have to settle for an impact sub role.

Our Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest Prediction
These two sides have experienced very differing starts to the season despite both being even on three points. Manchester United have looked toothless in front of the net and their defense has been torn open on a number of occasions. Forest, on the other hand, put forth an admirable display against Arsenal in matchday one and were deserved winners last week. In both of those fixtures, Steve Cooper’s men did a fantastic job on the defensive side of the ball despite having conceded three total goals. We like Forest to be able to frustrate this wobbly United team and keep this match respectable. Our Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest prediction is Forest on the +2 European handicap.
