Manchester United vs Manchester City Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League
by Joseph King | in Premier League Predictions
The 191st Manchester derby is set to kick off as eighth-placed Manchester United play host to second-place Manchester City for matchday 10. The defending champions come into this fixture two points behind league leaders Tottenham. Manchester United, meanwhile, will be looking to close the gap on their rivals which currently sits at six points. This is the first time these two sides meet following Man City’s 2-1 triumph over United in the final of the FA Cup last season. Will Pep Guardiola be able to get another one over on Erik ten Hag?

Manchester United - Manchester City: Form Analysis
Manchester United come into this home fixture on a positive run of form after three consecutive wins. Their most recent outing was a 1-0 victory over Kobenhavn in the Champions League, their first of the group stage. However, United were certainly fortunate to walk away with the three points. Goalkeeper Andre Onana had to deny a last-gasp penalty for the Danish side in the seventh minute of stoppage time to move the Red Devils up to third in the group. They’ll now hope to carry that positive momentum over to the domestic league where they have won their last two in a row. Manchester United recorded 2-1 victories over both Brentford and Sheffield United, the former of which required two stoppage time goals to secure the victory.
Manchester City have also put together back-to-back wins following a disappointing streak which saw them lose three in four matches. The most recent outing for the Citizens was a 3-1 away win over Swiss side Young Boys in the Champions League. The victory preserves City’s 100% winning record in the group stage as they now hold a three-point lead over RB Leipzig. In the league, the Sky Blues’ most recent fixture saw them run out 2-1 winners over Brighton at the Etihad. They’ve now scored five goals since being shut out for the first time this league season by Arsenal three weeks ago. While Guardiola’s side is a perfect 4-0-0 at home in the league, they’ve looked much more vulnerable as the visiting side. Man City have lost two of their five away trips so far.

Manchester United & Manchester City Squad Analysis
There are still a number of injuries plaguing this Manchester United squad although things are slowly improving. Erik ten Hag will be unable to call upon key central defender Lisandro Martinez as the Argentine deals with a foot injury. First-choice left back Luke Shaw will also miss out and has been a huge miss on that side as deputy Sergio Reguilon has been underwhelming so far. Tyrell Malacia also misses out, as well as Amad Diallo. The expectation is that Casemiro will be back for this key fixture after sustaining a minor injury on Brazil duty. He’ll partner Scott McTominay, who is arguably the most in-form United player at the moment with three goals in the last three games.
Pep Guardiola doesn’t have too much to worry about with his stacked squad as he will only be without two players for the trip to the red half of Manchester. Defender Manuel Akanji picked up two yellows vs Brighton in the team’s last Premier League meeting, meaning he will be suspended for this one. The only other absentee is the influential midfielder Kevin De Bruyne who continues to battle a hamstring injury. Haaland will of course be the focal point and is coming off two goals vs Young Boys. However, Julian Alvarez will be pushing for a spot behind the Norwegian as the former River Plate man is having a fine season.
