Manchester United welcome West Brom to Old Trafford this Saturday for Premier League action. Before the season kicked off, many would have predicted that the teams would be much further apart in the league table by gameweek nine. However, United, in 14th place, are only four places above West Brom, who are in 18th. Fans of the Red Devils will point out that they have seven points more than the Baggies as well as a game in hand on their upcoming opponents. However, it's a poor return on the promise United showed towards the end of last season with their performances after the turn of the year. United were supposed to have kicked on. Instead, they have gone six games without a league win at home, their worst run of home form in decades. They bounced back from two successive defeats before the international break with a 3-1 win at Everton. Bruno Fernandes was the star for United on that day, scoring twice. The Portugal international has been a revelation for the club since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January. 

West Brom are currently without a win in the Premier League this season. Of their eight games, they have avoided defeat in three, the most eye-catching of which was a 3-3 draw with Chelsea. Tightening a leaky defence is necessary for West Brom if they want to avoid relegation and Slaven Bilic has started to address that in recent weeks. They conceded at least three goals in their first three matches of the campaign and two or fewer in the five that followed, a sign of improvement. Sitting back against United could frustrate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, who have a much-publicised problem with breaking down so-called smaller clubs. A problem within that problem is how ponderous United can be in their build-up play. Understanding that dropping more points could lead to him losing his job, Solskjaer will probably tell his side to attack - and that should set up an entertaining game. Back over 3.5 goals.
