Sometimes a manager says something that comes back to bite them where it hurts. After a recent league defeat, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal said winning the Europa League was the best chance his team had of playing in the Champions League next season. A few days later United lost 2-1 away to Midtjylland, and are in real danger of making their second European exit of the season and probably ending van Gaal's reign as manager at Old Trafford. United have done well at home in Europe this season with two wins and a costly draw against PSV in their Champions League group. Midtjylland can't be written off at all in this tie. Three games this season against sides currently in the top six in the Premier League have resulted in home wins over Southampton and Manchester United and an away draw at Southampton. Seven years ago they also beat Manchester City at home before losing on penalties in the second leg. Their away form in the Danish Superliga isn't too hot this season with just three wins in eight games. They also lost two of their three away games in the group stages of this competition so if United can get off to a good start here they can definitely win the game. Whether they can do enough to qualify remains to be seen.
