Manchester United start their 2020/21 Premier League campaign a week late, with a home fixture against Crystal Palace. Heading to the game, Palace have already registered three points from their 1-0 win over Southampton in the opening weekend. United, meanwhile, had an extended rest following their exploits in the Europa League last season. While they were omitted from the opening day fixtures, United played their final preseason friendly game with Aston Villa, losing 1-0. That was a second straight loss for United after the defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League in mid August and earlier they had labored wins over LASK and Copenhagen in the Europa League. They were however strong finishers in the league last season, beating Leicester City 2-0 on the final day to cap a 14-game unbeaten run in the league. Having scored in each of their last 12 league games, and two or more in seven of the last eight, they will be confident heading here. The red Devils have added Dutch midfielder Van de Beek to their roster and having finished last season on a high, they’ll be even stronger if he can get a good understanding with Bruno Fernandes. United lost 2-0 to Burnley at home in January, which remains their only home loss in 17 matches at Old Trafford. They are unbeaten in their last seven home league games and have scored two or more in five of their last six. Palace beat United 2-1 in this corresponding fixture last season but that remains their only win in 15 matches against Manchester United.

While Crystal Palace started their league campaign with a win, they were unconvincing in defence and had their keeper to thank for big saves against Southampton. They struggled in their midweek Carabao Cup fixture, as they were pushed all the way to penalties by Bournemouth, and lost 11-10 after a 0-0 draw. Palace are struggling with a long injury list too, which will further affect them in this clash as well as the fact that they will be playing their third game, while United will only be starting their season. It has also not been a good ride for Palace in the league; they finished with just a point in their last eight matches last season. They have made some good additions, but these players will need some time to settle in well and a game at Old Trafford may come with a lot of pressure. Palace have one clean sheet in their last nine league matches and have scored more than once in just one of these nine matches. Away from home, they have four straight losses in the league and have conceded at least two goals in these games. With just five away wins in the league last season, they will be seeking a good start in their first league game on the road.
